The Chantecler is uniquely suited for regions with cold winters because of the small comb and wattles that are less likely to become frostbitten - which would lead to less eggs or loss of weight or condition. They do NOT thrive in heat or hot climates - it is not where they are meant to live. They will go broody and make great mothers.

Old Time Farm Partridge Chantecler are selectively bred for breed characteristics, according to the American Poultry Association (APA) Standard of Perfection and the writings of the Partridge Chantecler founder, Dr Wilkinson, as well as for a balance between egg and meat production. We participate in the NPIP program (participant #23-601) and our flock is certified by the American Poultry Association as well as Certified Heritage.

The foundation for our breeding plan is health, vigor and good temperament - only healthy/vigorous birds are in our flock and there is no room on our farm for unpleasant birds. We select for structural soundness and production characteristics primarily using the Livestock Conservancy Heritage Chicken Manual as a guide, then use the APA Standard of Perfection along with guidance from our mentors and the writings found in our extensive library of books and articles for the breed specific and finer points of selection. Our breeding pens are set up to minimize faults being duplicated in male and female (no bird is perfect).

Eggs of good quality that are 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 oz are saved for incubation (aim for an average of 24 oz per dozen). We feed a custom, nutrient dense breeder ration made with non-GMO grains for hatchability, the health of our flock and a good start to their offspring. Our breeding flock is also free range/on pasture within poultry net paddocks.
  • Partridge Chantecler hatching eggs are $30/dozen plus shipping ($15 shipping for 1 doz. and $20 shipping for 2 doz.)
  • The Partridge Chantecler eggs we select for shipping are 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 oz and we aim for an average of 24 oz per dozen.
  • Only eggs of good shape and shell quality are shipped - all eggs are candled before being packaged and we make every attempt to make sure the eggs are less than 4 days old that are shipped.
  • We offer no guarantee on hatching eggs but do include extra eggs with each order. We have reports of good fertility and hatchability in the eggs we have shipped (plus our on farm records), but many things can happen when eggs are shipped that may damage them and variables in incubation that may occur that may lead to a less than ideal hatch.
  • Old Time poultry have been selectively bred for breed characteristics and breed standard for many generations but unwanted or undesirable characteristics may show up. We still have a lot of work to do!
  • We ship to the US only (with the exception of Hawaii).
  • All eggs are shipped by USPS Priority Mail.
  • We reserve the right to refuse any order for any reason.
