Hi, I recently got my hands on a pair of pastel call ducklings. They're approximately a month and a half old. Pretty sure one is a boy and the other a girl (she's smaller, has started developing a quack, as well as developed her wings faster.) The question is my boy is developing his head feathers almost identical to the girl, and I was wondering if that's normal or if I ended up wit two girls?

This is the boy. He's at least an inch taller than my girl.

This is my girl. The both just got out of their baths. (Sorry about the quality of the pictures. They don't tend to pose :) )

Here is the two together. The boy is on the right.

Everything else about the boy seems to be accurate for males he has a greenish beak, and darker chest feathers. He's also much quieter than my girl. I read online the boys get a dusty blue on their heads, but that's not what's happening. I usually raise muscovies, so I have no experience with mallard descendents. I'm really confused.

Nice looking ducks!

Sorry I can't answer your questions about telling the two apart (I don't keep ducks), but it would be awesome if you could breed them! Just thought I would warn you, if they are siblings, breeding them together could lead to inbreeding depression. If you get two females you could purchase an unrelated male.

Best of luck with your new ducks!
