I have two little cornish X chicks that keep getting pasty butt. They are also not growing as fast as the others. I keep cleaning the area off. Is there anything I can do? They are 5 days old.

Thanks!

Definitely continue to wash the area. Wipe it with a damp paper towel or soak their rears if you need to. You may want to try adding a little bit of plain yogurt to their food to get them some probiotics in their gut. Some sand in a separate container for them to pick at may help as well. Are they on a medicated chick starter?

Their starter is not medicated. I have never had pasty butt issues with my layers. Thanks for the tip, I will give them yogurt!

Lowering the temp in the brooder is worth a try. I feed my chicks with paste butt a gruel of chick starter and yogurt with water to make is soupy. We are in a dry climate and I wondered if temp and humidity make a difference. Thanks bigredfeather.
