Hello again,
I'd like to give a big thanks to everyone that is on Backyardchicks.com! With your help my chicks survived the lice. But I found out another problem. I got a couple more chicks two days ago. They were dooing fine till one was losing energy. I looked and noticed his butt was plugged up. I removed the poop and gave him a soak in warm water. But then I saw his little but hole, and its fully shut! A dried peice of poop closed it or something. What should I do to open it? I really dont want to lose my Yetti.

I never had to deal with this and I searched and could not find an answer to your question. Until someone who has experienced this comes along, maybe a drop or two of olive oil on a tissue or Q tip and gently wiping the area will soften and loosen up the rest of what is stuck there. Good luck to you.

Thank you, I will try a little olive oil. Yeah I never expected that to happen. I am so worried, she is laying down a lot, and is not eating or drinking. I have to make her drink. Is it safe to feed her with her butt closed, if so how and what should I feed her?

I read an article on the internet that suggested you should hold the chicks rear in warm water for some time to allow everything to soften and loosen up. Then gently rub the area with a soft cloth. Then dry the chick completely with a hair drier set to the lowest temp. Be sure the water is not too hot or cool. And be careful the blow dryer is set to lowest temp and not held too close to chick. Soaking in warm water long enough should open it back up. I think the olive oil on a q-tip idea is good too. Maybe a warm water soak, dry thoroughly, and then rub with oil?

I think that you should dip her beak in water that you added a small amount of sugar to to at least try to get minimal fluids in her.

Good luck. I'll be sending her my positive thoughts.

I managed to get it open, but it was too late. She sadly died last night.
