Pasty Butts?

I keep reading posts that say no pasty butts. What is pasty butt?

well..frm my very new experience-it is when the chicken pooh sticks to their butts-clogging the vents-so they need a warm bath in mild soap ad little cleaning on their butts...to relieve the problem-I did it last night and cut butt feathers around the vents to try and stop it-this am-they were fluffy and clean-minus a bald spot on their hinnies! LOL....

Pasty butt is when a particular chick constantly get poo stuck to her bum, and you have to clean it off so she doesn't get blockage. I have a chick prone to pasty butt. I check her everyday and try scraping (GENTLY) the poo off with a wet rag and Q-tip.

But I found that it's a lot easier if I bring her out of the brooder and stick her little butt under warm running water and GENTLY pick off the wet poo. I then just put her back under the heat lamp and she dries off fine and has a nice clean bum too! Just watch them carefully to see who might be a pasty butt chick.
