Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis Or has a peacock available for adoption (or so I've been told). Anyone interested should contact the shelter directly. Just a public service announcement. They aren't really equipped to house these guys, so it needs a new home.

There are also peafowl for adoption in PA and CA. I regularly go to www.petfinder.org to check for homeless peas. Most shelters know what they are but have no idea how to take care of them. Shelters will not ship, either, so you need to pick them up. It's usually shelter policy with any animal not to ship. Hope these peas can find new homes. The ones in PA have been there for months, and I've heard the "adoption fee" is really high. (Maybe they want to keep them?)

I just checked the Pa listings... they want $100.00 for a 3 month old peachick.
That's waaaay too much for me to pay for a peachick of unknown origin!
They have an adult blackshoulder male for $150.00 - that's not too bad.
Either they want to keep them or they have no idea what a good asking price might be.

Maybe someone should tell them so that they have half a chance of a home reasonably quickly

You might contact them and put in an offer. They'd probably want to think about it for a while, but you may get a call later on when they get desperate.

I Just picked up a spalding peahen at least 7/8 blood java, but almost identical to a java hen, from the local shelter for the small adoption fee of 15 dollars!!!
