This is my first peafowl nesting season; of sorts. My peacock died last winter with respiratory problems. My two peahens just turned two years old and one has a nest of four eggs and recently started to brood. The nest is on the roof of one of my coops that has a rooftop garden. A safe as place as any she'd find, but the chicks will have an eight foot drop to get to the ground; that should be OK as I've seen them jump from a lot higher and run away afterwards.
Question-How touchy are peafowl, in general, about having their nests disturbed? I would like to give her some extra large chicken eggs I have to hatch since her own are infertile, but worry she will desert the nest. All the turkeys I have are now brooding, so their eggs are not an option for fostering. I had thought that poults would do better with a peahen mom. I have done the research and know that peahens will raise chicken chicks.

Some hens react differently but in general, you can shoo them off and take or add eggs with no problem. In the mid-morning she will come off to eat, that would be a good time to exchange the eggs and you have the rest of the day to watch her.

Thank you for the reply. I will do as you suggest. The bird is quite tame so I'm hoping she will accept my presence.
