Peacock feathers????

Hi. What do you do with the feathers that your peacock loses? Sell them, decorate with them etc? For those who have some (small or large) and are willing to part with just a few, please let me know. My daughter is in 4H and and one of the things she's entered in is called wearable arts. Well we are making an outfit and accessories around peacocks. I was hoping to get a few feathers to maybe make some earings and something for her hair. I do have a peahen and peacock but their feathers aren't nearly as colored and he doesn't have any eye feathers yet. I tried getting one of the bright colored blue/purple ones on his neck but he wanted no part of it. They free range so it's almost impossible to catch them. LOL Anyway just let me know if you might have something.

Hi. Yeah just the eyes. We were going to try to make some earrings and something for her to wear in her hair. This is our first year in 4H. I had no idea how involved it gets.

I don't have any clothing ideas for feathers, but I'm thinking of making a lampshade and a round mirror frame with my feathers. No wait! I do have an idea. Would it be possible to strip those long grey strands from the feather shanks? They could make fun pom poms for sandles, or appliques for a denim jacket. Of course, whatever you do, I'd love to see pics!

I gave mine to a church group that sold them at their fund raising bazaar. They make money for third world countries.
They got $2 each.

The blue neck feathers also make beautiful earrings. You'll need 2 feathers of the same width to give the piece good depth of color. Glue a rhinestone near the setting and it will be beautiful.

You can also use the scicle feathers and eye feathers to make pins/brooches. You can make them as large as you want, and wrap them to the pin with floral tape. These are outstanding, and can be used on clothing, hats, lapels, purses, etc. A gallery in town used to buy my feather jewelry when I had time to make it, and they charged $25 for the smallest earrings and $75 for the pins/brooches. I heard it started a little fad in that area of town, and the gallery sold lots of them.

Yes, earrings and use them in flower arrangments, vases and place them on the wall in the fan shape as it would be on the peacock. You can do anything with them! I love them. We used to have them but dont' anymore. I just got a bundle of 300 feathers from the blues, greens, and white peacocks for $7.00!
