That's a male. They won't necessarily have more color. It's the barring on their back and wings and the rust colored wings at the bottom.

O.K. Libby LOU; the way you tell the difference in the male and females! If you look at the pictures of the first three they are females, because they have less bars on their feathers.(Smoother Looking feathers) Where as the male has more bars, like the last picture that Generalsherman posted. If you compare the feathering you will see the difference. I hope this is will help you out.
