Peacock took off.

Yeah there's a guy that has a bunch of peacocks about 100 yards from where she was so I assume it came from his flock but you never can tell unless they are banded, would be very hard to prove.

I can just about guarantee the kids chased him off. He probably flew that mile and half to the trees on the other side of the cow pasture. Peafowl are going to fly high when they are really spooked by something. If they didn't injure the bird or kill it, its likely sitting on some trees safely far away from what frightened it. If it was injured it took off and will never return. If it were me, I'd release a hen. She's not going to leave her sisters but she will be able to get up high and use her voice to attract him over a wider distance.
I'd grill the kids further. Sounds like a chaotic scene for a peafowl and during nesting season, the male's responsibility is to locate an appropriate nesting site as far away from danger as possible.

My hens free range but usually stay up in the barn. The dogs don't bother them when they are in the barn and can fly up to a beam and they wait till it is calm outside to come out. My MILs little dog did chase 2 of them and one flew up to the roof of the barn and the other was able to run into the barn. We were yelling at the dog the whole time and she knows she isn't suppose to be chasing them but she is extremely stubborn and doesn't care what we say. The hens don't get close to people and they've been making a lot of noise lately to contact one another while 2 of them are starting to nest. The male wasn't afraid of people, horses, cows, or four wheeler. So that makes me wonder if the dog chased him off or the kids since the dog is fairly small. A group of 6-7 kids and some on bikes going towards him might scare him since he can't focuse on one. We told the kids earlier that day he left to not go near him and at least be 20 feet away if they see him. The kids ended up over here someway when they were suppose to be at a party 4 miles from here to ride with us over. Some of the other cousins down the road at their grandparents were going to come over later to play with them. When we showed up all of them and including 2 others that aren't related were over without any grown ups around. The kids were around 5-13 years old. You know how some kids are when they did something they weren't suppose to they either won't tell anyone or fib about what happened.

My FIL found the peacock but it was dead. He just stumbled across it by chance when he was looking out the window to check the manure pit. Must of gotten chased into it and got stuck in the manure. He said only the tail feathers were stuck out above the manure. Feel bad that he died that way even though he was mean.
