Poor Ice and Crystal I opened the door today so they could get out a little. When they have been in the pen for a while and I let them out they are fun to watch. They will come out running and chase each other around the pen, darting in and out of the pen, sometimes he is in front and she is chasing him after a few laps she is in front and he is chasing her. It is like they are playing follow the leader or catch me if you can. I watch them doing this a lot. It is extremely windy today. Ice the male came out first he tried to run but the wind caught his tale, this is his first long train, and blew him sideways. He tried to fly but he was facing into the wind so didnt get far. To make matters worse there is still some ice around and he landed right in the middle of some. The wind blew him off it. He and tried to get back to the pen but when he would try to walk the wind keep blowing him where he didnt want to go. I had to laugh because his train keeps trying to pass out his head. He gave up and just stood facing into the wind and calling. Meanwhile Crystal came out running and the wind caught her. She didnt like that so she tried to fly but the wind blew her the other way from Ice. She landed on a ice patch and just stood there looking like what is going on. Ice was calling and so was she. The wind was not blowing her around as much as Ice but she did not like it or the ice. She made it up to the back of the house when the wind relented for a bit. He tried to follow but the wind picked up again. He turned around and ran back to the pen sideways. It was funny because he was trying to get back to the pen and the wind was blowing him away from it. Crystal tried to fly back to the pen but ended up behind it. That was enough for them both they finely made it back into the pen and have not came out again.
The wind is very strong today. When I went down to feed and water the chickens and peacocks, I saw a piece of plywood that I had propped up against the back of the chicken pen for them to hid under from the hawks, was knocked down. I picked it up not thinking about the ice I was standing on. The wind caught the plywood and blew me off the ice I lost my footing and fell right into the mud. It happened so fast I was lying in the mud before I know what happened. Taught me a lesson next time I pick up something like that again in a strong wind I will make sure it is side ways.
