Peacocks/Peahens...

It would be pretty rare to find anyone that free ranges peas with chickens to say the peas chase the chickens. We have never seen it here in the ten years or so we have been free ranging peas, chickens and guineas. The worst offenders are the guineas that have run off some peas but for the most part after the pecking order is established they live in harmony.

The Female peafowl don't bother my chickens or my property for the most part they just hang out and wander around. The male is the one that is aggressive with my chickens. Maybe this is just an issue that my birds don't like him so they run from him or he really is chasing them I don't know. I don't feed them food. I also do not know if they carry any diseases that could be spread to my flock.

My chickens only free range during the hours that we are home as we have many daytime predators and I don't want them going to the neighbors property where they aren't supposed to be.

I don't want to get into a pissing match with any of my neighbors, and I certainly don't want to harm the Peacocks was just trying to see if there was a reasonable way to detour them from coming over. They are beautiful birds and I am animal lover. However if I wanted peacocks I would own them and them scratching my personal property is an issue. I'm sure my neighbors wouldn't appreciate me sueing them over that even though they don't feel responsible for fixing the scratches. I feel like as a pet owner ie it be either chickens, peacocks, turkeys, dogs, cows, horses ect you should take responsibility in taking care of them.

I keep forgeting to ask, how many peafowl are we talking about? And Only the one male? How long have they been there, and you? Are predators preventing the peas from nesting? I know they can live a long time but Mr KingBee about how long?

Not at all saying they should stay just for curiositys sake. Ive had turkeys so i can imagine the mess the peafowl could make of a garden.

There are three total. One male and two females. The one pair is 3 years old and the other is a yearling from last summer.

This is our second summer at our new house and they showed up last summer. Pretty much come over first thing in the am and dont leave until evening. They go home and roost in the trees or on their owners house at night. We live on a creek so we have foxes, coyotes, racoons, and bobcats.During the night and during the day. Not sure how they have made it with all the predators but they have.
