I belong to a historical re-enactment society that puts on regular medieval themed events.

My household is putting together a feast this coming October and we are hoping to offer something really spectacular. We are looking for one (or more) peacocks that we can offer as the main dish for our feast. We have money in our budget to purchase supplies (but all donations are tax deductible since we are a non-profit educational group) though we do want to keep our costs as low as we can since there are many other things we have to buy to feed everyone.

We are prepared to process the bird(s) ourselves to ensure they can be presented at our feast in the most impressive fashion possible. As such, we are looking to purchase live peacocks sometime between now and October. Of course we would ideally like them young enough that they will be worth eating, but we would also like them mature enough to have their stunning feathers, so I am unsure what age this means. We can travel, if necessary, to pick them up, but would prefer them to be in-state because that is where we travel to.

I know it seems like an odd request, but it really would make our event something special. We have to outdo last-year's feast team that put together mythical beasts out of a chicken (from my flock) and a small pig. The pictures below are from the kitchen prep area before it was presented to the reigning prince and the others chosen to sit at the high table. As you can see, presentation matters and it was stunning! A roast peacock is something that no one has ever done (to my knowledge) and it would be awesome!

If you have spare peafowl that you can offer, please PM me with your location, the price and number of peacocks you are offering, and what date they would be available for pickup.

Don't know how many replies you will get here, most of us coddle our peas and can not bare the thought of eating such a beautiful creature, so here is a link to a place in Eugene Oregon that sells exotic meats, perhaps they can help you find a feathered bird.

It has been my experence when processing peafowl that the ones under 18 months are much more tender hence the males will not have a pretty train.
Good luck on your quest

I've been told Guineas are often served as a fancy meal and labeled as peacock. Apparently they look and taste pretty much the same when processed. Guineas would be much easier and cheaper to find and process. Just tell people it's peacock and they'll have no idea. You can buy peacock feathers for the display at Hobby Lobby.

The skin of the bird is used as part of the presentation, so I can't just pass it off as peacock. I do understand about loving your peafowl and not wanting them eaten. That is why I am totally upfront about my intentions. I don't want to eat someone's beloved pet. I am just hoping someone has a problem bird that they want to be rid of but can't do the deed themselves.

Think you're gonna have to spend the $$$ if you want a peacock, check craigslist, or find a poultry/livestock auction near you.

You could fine a livestock action and get lucky but transporting a pea can really mess up their feathers. have you checked the link I gave you, they are in your state they may be able to get you a live bird, won't hurt to ask.

I would have no problem selling you a bird as long as it wasn't my friend, I raise birds for meat and eggs so it don't bother me.

I didn't realize they were so close to us! I scanned their website, but they only offered packaged meats, so I didn't think it would work. Now that i know it's only a 3 hour drive, I may have to contact them.

Thanks for the link!
