Peafowl Band Sizes and Recommendations

My spaldings will be 6 months old in a couple weeks and I would like to band their legs since they are fully flighted (have already flown to our roof and a neighbor’s roof and immediately come back). They only have supervised visits out of their pen for now, but at a year I will start incrementally letting them out longer 1 or 2 at a time.

I would like to band them now. Any band recommendations on type and diameter size? I want to be able to have our phone number on the bands. No chafing or sharp areas, stay on, and easy for us to place and remove. (Ideally…I realize there may not be a perfect solution, but all suggestions or links are welcome!) I’ve never banded birds before, so this will be a new experience

Size 22 for peahens and 24 for peacocks. If you get the aluminum butt end bands, they can come open and fall off if the bird gets a talon inside the band.

but you can clamp them by hand. The harder metal bands will have to use a pair of channel-lock pliers to close them.
