Peafowl Noob...

Hi, could someone give me the name or link of a good article on peafowl? I do not have any peafowl right now but I have 8 coming from Stromberg's hatchery this June, I have done some research about peafowl but I still do not know enough. Can someone provide me with an article that contains information on how to raise peafowl, common diseases peafowl get and how to prevent/rid of them, and how to free range peafowl.

Also, I have a few questions about peafowl I know they are not supposed to be housed with chickens, mine won't be, but how far away do they need to be from chickens? My unused coop that I will be using for a peafowl and pheasant coop is only 30-40 feet away from my chicken coop, will I need to move it? I let my chickens free range and the do go near the unused coop, even inside it if I leave the door open, will the peafowl get sick if chickens are around their coop & run when free ranging? I plan on letting the peafowl free range once they have fully matured, will they get sick when they go near the chicken coop?

Diseases you need to worry about with peafowl in the USA are:

• Coccidiosis
• Worms
• Blackhead
• Respiratory infections
• Hardware disease

I suggest that you read up on each. Drugs I think you should have on hand to treat peafowl:

• Baytril
• Metronidazole
• Corid
• sulfadimethoxine
  
• Baycox
• Safeguard or Valbazen

That article has some very good info except that all of the medical info is incorrect. Ignore all medical info in that article.

Ok so I have chickens and i'm wondering if they are carrying black head, if they are then I won't be able to get peacocks because they would just die from black head. I was planning on keeping them in a separate coop but after reading all these articles it appears that they will get it if they eat an infected worm or come in contact with infected chicken poop, or other infected birds. I assume this is true because I have read it in almost every site or article I visit. I do not think I will be able to prevent my peafowl from eating infected worms or coming in contact with chicken poop sooooo i'm going to have to rehome 8 peachicks this June
Unless there is a way that I can test to see if my chickens & ducks are infected with black head, I read that turkeys also get black head, I know this sounds mean but do you guys think it would be possible for me to get a few turkeys first to use as guinea pigs? If they die from black head then I will sell the peafowl when they arrive, if they live then I will have turkeys and peafowl. Would this test work? Sorry, but i'd rather spend a few bucks on turkeys and have them die than spend $600 on peafowl and have them die.
