Hello, I have 4 Peahens, 1 laid eggs and another hen set the nest with her and they co-hatch/mother, 4 chicks. 1 hen hatched 3 by herself and the remaining hen laid some eggs and made a nest in front of the chicken fence. Well, she gets off the nest and disappears and so I took the 4 cold eggs of (except one was broke) and put in the incubator. She came back and squawked so, I gave them back. Next day she was in the hen house inspecting all the nest boxes for 1/2 a day and again, the eggs went cold. I took them again and exchanged them for 3 duds. Now, every day she goes in the hen house after sitting the eggs all night and yanks the hens off the nests, breaking their eggs. What the heck?????
I believe 2 of the eggs are going to be ok but I really wanted her to raise the with the flock. I thought about letting them hatch then slipping them under her at night but what if she rejects them? Or, what if she is content with them?
