I have a peahen that is sitting on five eggs...my peacock has had not interest in going in the pen...however he has dropped his train and wanted in the pen with my peahen...she is still sitting on her eggs but is it safe to have him in the pen with her?????

I'm not sure how it is in a pen?
But with the free rangers here, some of the guys just like to sit near the hens when they're on a nest, almost like they want to keep them company. They don't bother the hens.

They free range in the day and go to bed at night...but now that she has the eggs she's not leaving or wanting to leave her pen...she does every other day to take a bath and "yell" at Indy he runs the other way...its really funny!! I'll wait and see if he wants to go to bed tonight...thanks for the advise!

My breeding pair stay in a pen most of the time, and the male will lay next to her while she is on the nest or other times roost close to her with his train covering her.. He is just now dropping his train while my free ranging male has lost all of his.

I have a pen with a spalding pair and a blackshoulder spalding peahen that is broody. The male did not care about the hen whatsoever while the spalding peahen was more interested in her. Her peachicks hatched today so I believe she will take them out tomorrow and will see what happens.

All my peas free range, i have over 40 and the hens and babies are with them no problem, if a hen gets antsy about another pea aproaching when they first hatch she just covers them up and lets the investigator get a peep at them under her with their little heads sticking out till she is sure they are ok with the wee one, usually after a few days all the peas are use to the newcommers and they become part of their flock.

I had that same question last year when my pair hatched out their first time. I was concerned he would peck the babies or kill them, but that was not the case.

My peacock turned out to be a great daddy! He let my female sit without bothering her, watched over her at night, and when those babies hatched, he walked around with mama and the babies constantly, bringing up the rear of the family. It was cute

Oh he loves her ...he's very protective of the love of his life....he's been wanting to go in the pen for the last few nights and they sit together beak to beak!! I just can't wait to see these babies!!! Thanks for posting....makes this "grandma" feel a little better!!
