peanut allergies in schools

Some of these comments just really rubbed me wrong. I see what you are saying on some levels, BUT you need to be careful with absolutes. I have homeschooled my children for many years (graduated two so far), however last summer I was diagnosed with cancer and needed chemo, so all of my children were put in pubic schools. I did not have a choice. There are many people that do not have choices. I am doing better now and am homeschooling 2 of them, but the 3 that are doing well in public are still in public. One happenes to have Asperger and one has peanut allergies. I do not expect them to ban peanuts, but I do expect them to keep them out of my daughters food. I pay taxes and a lot of them to the school system, my daughter does deserve an education and to be safe. I do not agree with total bans though.

But you might out to be careful judging other people's situations, homeschooling, though great, is not always an option for everyone.

This is exactly right. I worked in a school cafeteria for 16 years and we had a boy who started K and went all the way thru school as a severe diabetic; his mom sent his snack every dayand we kept a bottle of juice in the fridge sent to school by his mom, and not once did she expect us to cater to him because he was "special". We also had another boy who was deathly allergic to peanuts and we did get a detailed and very exact letter from his mom as to the seriousness of it, but we did not cater to him either. Ironically when he was a teen, his mom took him to the chiropractor with her and the allergy went away after adjustments. . .he can now eat anything with peanuts in it and is not affected in any way.
