Hi all!

A few months ago we decided to get pea fowl.

I’ve had ducks and chickens for quite a while. My husband grew up in a neighborhood that had peacocks roaming freely. And amazingly the people that built this house had peacocks as well

I started them with the chickens. I would move them to the small pen during the day, Because My chickens free range in and out. I needed to teach the peas how to do this.
I started letting them out a little bit at a time, maybe for just a couple minutes just so that they could feel the freedom. And then I gently heard them back in.

So far so good they tend to return to the roost just like the chickens.

Here’s a video.

Just a little update.

My peas are hens. I find that kinda ironic. The only time I want cocks, and I get hens.

The Peas occasionally fly over the fence to the neighbors place, but usually come back the same day, or before dark to roost.

Last week, one was over the fence calling to the other. I figured she’d be back. But she didn’t come back.

My neighbor two doors down called and told me she had one of my peas. I told her if she kinda spooked her in my direction, she’d probably make it home. Nope.

I had my other neighbor call his neighbor, who has peas. I can hear them, but have never seen them. Nor, have I met this neighbor. Nope. Not there.

She didn’t come home for three days.

I was very happy to see her perched next to her sister.

I’m thinking about getting them “tiles” gps trackers.

Well, It looks like I may not actually know the sex of my two yet.

I thought that they were old enough to sex, but they still aren’t.

Today while watching them, I noticed one is a bit bluer than the other, and it extends farther down its chest...fingers crossed for a matched set!

Is it possible that I got my first Pea Egg?

This is next to a chicken egg. I also have ducks, but This is not a duck egg.

She’s barely a year old.

Thank you. We are blessed to live here.

We purchased the ranch as a short sale. The previous owners NEVER in the entire seven years they lived her did any maintenance, including landscape and interior. The house was a disgusting mess. But we saw the beauty in it.

It took nine months to close escrow. We were on pins and needles the entire time.

We’ve been on an rv vacation for a bit over two weeks.

Today, the person watching my animals texted this picture to me!

My peas are only about a year old. We got them fully feathered in August last year. I thought I had two hens, and I still may. But from what I heard, a year old hen would need a sexually mature cock to lay. Is this true? I hear peas crying in the neighborhood, and my peas go “visiting” most every day.

I’m going to let her sit on them and see what I get!
