just got 5 rescue hens yesterday and all of them have obviously been with a rather feisty rooster. most have no saddle feathers and many are missing most of their tail feathers. i noticed today that one of them has a couple of spots of blood where feathers have been plucked. i also noticed the other hens pecking at it now and again. nothing too agressive and they aren't chasing her around, just when she is close enough they give her a little peck at the blood spots. it is possible that she is just bottom of the order hen and this would happen weather or not she was fully feathered OR i could have a problem on my hands.
any suggestions?
normally it is easy for me to segregate one chicken away but i ended up with 3 ducklings and the 5 hens so my ability to segregate is down to caging which i would rather not do if possible...

Chickens seem to be really attracted to the color red. They just can't resist it....so if there's a way you can cover up those spots, like with a chicken saddle....that will help greatly in the healing. Ive heard that blue cote helps deter the pecking....but it's really messing looking....
