Chirping
Kind of a long story, but here it goes...
June, date unknown, 2012
Finnaly decided to get some chickens. Went up to the farm and there were 3 hens, production red. We got them and brought them home. Lived a normal, happy chicken life. For a while.
October 21, 2013
After thinking we lost 2 of our hens while them free ranging, my parents went back to the farm and got another production red. Little did I know that the 2 lost hens were safe and sound, 2 hours later, they came back to the coop. Geez, now we have 4 hens. When I came back from some work, I was both alarmed and excited. Our own chickens were already decreasing in egg production. We decided to get a friend for this newcomer, who we named Golden. After we got Ruby, we just put them all in the coop together, with no knowledge of the pecking order. Well, we kinda learned after Ruby got a huge wound on her head from all the pecks she got. All of the feathers were gone on the top of her head. Poor thing. We put some antibiotics on it and separated Golden and Ruby from Fire, Light, and Freckles. It took them like 7 months to get used to each other. The entire winter, Golden and Ruby were kept in the coop, away from the others. After what seemed like forever, they got used to each other.

After forever, we decided to get a rooster and put a sign up at a farm. Two days later, someone called and said that they had a silkie rooster. He was the sweetest thing I have ever seen! We got him right away. Now that we had a little more knowledge about some chicken behaviors, we put him only with 1 of our chickens, so he could dominate them one by one, instead of all of the hens ganging up on him. Well, very similar to Golden and Ruby, we had to isolate him with the hens in his view and our new roo in the hens. Finally the hens got used to him after 5 months. There is seriously something wrong with our chickens.

we now decided to upgrade our flock and get 10 more chickens, but this time to try our hand at chicks! They all came out girls
We were so happy. When they were 8 weeks old, we decided to finally try and put them together with our hens and rooster, Milky. Same thing happened all over again. Ugh!! I am so sick of this! Even today, they are still not used to each other!
What in the world is wrong whith my chickens?! I thought that these were helpful friends, not fully equipped battle tanks (even thought they kind of are). How am I going to fix this? I can't take pics because at the moment I am on vacation, but please help!!!
Thanks,
