My new chicks have just started establishing a pecking order I will post a pic of the one that got beat on the most. The others seem to be fighting it out ok. Some are just not giving up, doing the chest bump and stretching their neck out (too look taller I assume) well this poor little girl got injured and I am wondering if I have to separate her out. She is hiding her face in the grass when they do it and is off away from the flock at this point. History, they are black sex links who I tricked mom into being broody and thinking she hatched 13 chicks (one was male but I think I got 2) They have a fairly large coop and they still fought when I had them out for a bit to free range, I have 2 waters and I am getting a second feeder tomorrow. They are 2 weeks old. This was posted yesterday but I put it in the wrong spot. so there is new info... its looks a little better today (not as red n shiny) I went out and got some Blue Kote (so its not a red beacon for all) They seem to only do it when they are eating and the 2 that are picked on are now are sitting away from the others. I put in a few logs for them to lay queen of the world on, a bunch of hay so they can hide and a box for some reason lol.

Make sure that they are also getting a good quality chicken starter grower that contains at least 20% protein until they are 20 weeks old or laying eggs. Mine usually haven't started establishing pecking order until 3-4 weeks. Just make sure they have plenty of room, and get outside to roam with their broody hen to keep from being bored.

I let them out often, they have plenty of starter food. Twice a day they get some meal worms, cherries, and now I have started giving a little scratch. I put some toys in there and it seems to be toning down. The wound looks a lot better (I out some blue kote on it) Now I have one with its nictitating membrane closed but it does not look irritated.

OK Update. Thank you all for your advice. Things are looking better. The wound is healing :) The one with the membrane closed, I put some eye drops in it and in 10 mins he opened it up. All is well :)

Still doing well! I had them shipped to me 2 looked a tiny bit smaller, they are not the ones getting picked on though. I was only supposed to receive one male I ordered 11 f 1 M, and I received 13 total. I think I have 2 M. Its was one of the roosters who was being picked on. The one with the nictitating membrane that was closed is a male too (I think). I can't believe the eye was so easy to solve! They still on that one a bit but only when eating as as long as he hangs back and let the others get what mom is pointing out then they leave him alone. He also developed a strategy when he is getting picked on too much, he hangs out right under mom :)
