we have red and white leghorns, well the red L. heads are raw due to our rooster. Is there anything we can put on the back of there heads??? I heard some type of tar one time but....IKD, give brand names and such if you know what to use! Thanks. Oh, why is it that only the red l. have the raw heads? the white l. look brand new to the flock, where the red l. look like there three y/o (they ALL hatched july 1st 2007). In advance, Thanks for the help! they don't peck each other...it's only when mating....

BluKote is good for pecking...it's an antiseptic and it will cover the red skin.

I've used Better Bitters for my Leghorn pecking my Brahma. Just wear gloves or you'll be tasting it yourself for the rest of the day.

I got a product called "peck no more" from my local feed store. It's a combo of tea tree oil and aleo vera, thick, brown, and syrupy. You spead it on open wounds, it seals and heals the area and when other birds peck at it, the taste repels them. I have used it on combs and vents when my girls were small.
