We have 6 8 week old pullets together. They’ve had been establishing their pecking order recently and now one is bleeding from having a blood feather picked out. We separated her, but is there anything else we should do?

Hi! Clean the wound and put some plain antibiotic ointment on it. However, I would pull the bully rather then the victim. Is there one hen that's the aggressor?

It seems like they’ve all been taking turns on each other. The one that is bleeding today used to be the bully. Now they’re all doing it 🤷‍♀️

8 weeks is pretty young, but I’ve had great success with pinless peepers. I could be their spokesperson, seriously. It’s a magical fix in my flock.

How big is the space they are in?
It’s a little small, so that may be the issue. It’s a little over 20 square feet. We have still been waiting to put them out in their coop/run because it still gets pretty cold here at night.

Thank you, I’ll look those up. I did just order some hen saddles hoping that they might help if they will wear them.

That’s what I’m thinking, they could be bored in a small space. How cold is it? Maybe you could put them in the run during the day and back in the brooder in the evening if it is super cold. But at 8 weeks they should be able to handle much more low temps.

The forecast night now is saying 20s and 30s until next Thursday then in the 40s after that. They should be ok being out there in the 40s by then right?
