My duckling is now a week old. Today I noticed his skin on his legs is peeling. there seems to be fresh skin underneath tho. Is this normal or is something wrong?

I never noticed this on my ducklings (doesn't mean it didn't happen, I just never looked that closely at their legs I guess).

Is your duckling in a brooder? What type of bedding is he on? Could you post a pic?

my ducklings did that also. their legs got kinda dry flaky for a week or 2. there have been other post in the past on this and it is very normale

he is in a big plastic tub till he gets bigger, his bedding is towels. If other ppl have had this happen with no problems too then i'm not too worried. It doesn't seem to bother him (he doesn't pick at the skin or anything and there appears to be fresh skin underneath)

Thanks for the replys

It sounds kind of like when a snake sheds. They lose the outer skin but there's new skin under it so that they can grow. That's my guess.

The above post is correct. It's just shedding off the old skin so that they can grow bigger. It happens to all ducklings and I believe more than once as they grow. I know my babies shed a few times. There is nothing to worry about.
