I married a farmer and have always wanted chickens for my own eggs. We inherited his grandparents' farmhouse with a coop already on property, so when my children were leaving the nest, I went broody. Currently I have 5 chickens of various breeds and loving it. My white leghorn girl, Shelley, is my favorite, but they all warm my heart.
Hope my first winter goes well. Learning a lot from this site. Thanks BYC

Greetings from Kansas, Hoosiercluck, and :welcome! Great to have you with us! As long as you have a ventilated but draft-free coop your birds will be fine. Chickens handle cold better than high heat and humidity. Here's a link to an article from the Learning Center that discusses keeping poultry in the winter https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/winter-chicken-keeping
Also, stop by the IN thread in this link if you'd like to chat with fellow local chicken peeps: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you
Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC! :)
