My first ever peeps arrived from the hatchery with 2 casualties and one that was buried under the flock so I had 3 die.

I have 3 more that are questionable. Had to spoon feed them sugar water since they werent drinking or eating. They perked up and then started fading again.
One just layed down and flopped on its back. Figured it was a goner. Went back in to check 45 minutes later and it was standing up peeping.

Do chicks flop down on their back for a nap?

Any thing I can try to get these 3 over the hump or are they probably goners?

thanks!

Baby chicks can sleep at any time. They can even sleep while eating, and poop while sleeping. Your chicks are hopefully just stressed from the journey. Making them comfortable and waiting are the best things you can do at this point.

I amSO VERY SORRY for the loss of your peeps. Wish there was a way to guarantee the safety & comfort of these cuties before they arrive at your door!

Best of luck with those who did arrive happy & healthy!

Huh... Now they are standing up and one is even peeping. I separated them from the larger feisty chicks by putting a smaller box inside the big brooder with its own water and some mash. They are still wobbling a little but don't seem drunk anymore. I hope they make it. Would really like to see what kind they are when they grow up.

Thanks for the kind wishes.

I'm sorry they had a tough trip out to you but it sounds like they are in very good hand with a lot of care.

I am sorry your babies had a rough trip and you lost 3. Yes they can just flop down an nap. I freaked out when mine did that for the first time. They would flop on their side and stretch out their leg & wing. Thought for sure they were goners, nope just sleepy little buggers.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things. I'm new to this, too. I had one little lady that I worried about. She'd fall over on her side and need help standing back up. It is amazing how she perked up after some extra TLC. I just took her inside with me, made sure she was warm and eating/drinking. Hope all your little ones make it!

Sounds like your doing everything right. Hope they make it . Where did you get them from?

Thanks for the greetings.
McMurray hatchery. The rest of the chicks are eating, drinking, pooping and running around the cage.
These 3 are mostly standing around looking like they are asleep on their feet or a little drunk. The 2 black/grey/yellow ones seem to be perking up. They have started pecking a little and are now drinking out of the dish unassisted. The fuzzy grey one with the afro will drink out of the spoon now but it acts like it is blind.

I have to hold it right to its beak and then You can almost see its little bird brain say "HEY! a drink, why yes, I am thirsty thank you. Wonder how this got here?" Take it away and it doesn't seem to notice. Hasn't figured out how to drink out of the dish yet either.

They are some cute little buggers.

Seems like they are coming around. Gettin ours from Mcmurray in two weeks soo excited and worried too . Our first time thru the mail.
