Had to euthanize my female pekin tonight(8 1/2 years old-painfully lame) and Pekin drake did not eat tonight. I am housing 4 6 wk. old chicks with him(they've been in there for 2 weeks) but my concern is--will he recover from his missing of the female pekin? He is also 8+ yrs. and starting to limp slightly and I could ramble on forever on my concerns-sorry---but there is a 5 week old pekin available a few miles from me(obviously sex unknown) so if it turns out to be a drake are they LIKELY to fight or will age difference give my current drake the "parent" advantage???I am willing to take ANY domestic female duck but they're just not available near me. thanks.
