Hi I'm new to group also new at being a duck mom.
We have 2 Rouen Drake and Female.
4 Pekin ducks around 3 months old, and 2 Chocolate Runner.
When Pekins came home a few had bad legs and did all the Niacin and Vitamin B
all of them seemed to get better except for one.
His hock became swollen and was limping with wing even hanging low.
Hock was hot to touch and swollen, I took her to vet and they tried to drain fluid out but didn't get any.
said his bones may be crumbled
She gave me antibiotics and antinflamatory.
Gave him the meds I let him swim in bath 2 to 3 x a day.
Heat is gone but swelling still there.
Still wasn't walking vet said that I could do ct scan which I'd love to but not in my price range.
I tried splinting with a splint I bought on Etsy but seemed to make it worse used 1 1/2 days and took it off.
Now he holds his leg out to side.
I can position his leg in the right place and he can stand on it and eat and cleans himself, but as soon as his foot moves it goes back out of place.
I've tried a lot of things like wrapping and taping but still held out to side off the ground.
Does anyone know if this is a slipped tendon or an actual bone issue ?
Also wondering if there is anyway I can wrapped it to keep in the right position or is it too late ?
Really didn't want to put her down but nothing seems to be working
Thank you

Welcome to BYC.

It sounds like your duck may have a slipped tendon. Swollen hock and the leg turning in or out are symptoms of it. Another symptom of it, is the leg may not fully extend. The swelling can sometimes make it hard to feel, but you should be able to feel the tendon on one side of the hock joint or the other.

Here is some info on slipped tendon and how to treat it.
