Yesterday i noticed that my pekin duck had a small limp. I checked to see if there was anything stuck in her foot but did not see anything. By the end of the night, she would not stand on it and laid down most of the day. She is eating fine. This morning she is the same, mostly laying down, I have been keeping her from not roaming around and in our pen (they are usually free range). I don't want to spend over $100 to just get her checked out and them tell me it is nothing serious. What do you think this is?

Are those black marks on the bottom of her foot scabs? If so, it could likely be bumblefoot. Basically a staph infection in ducks. You need to drain the foot and disinfect it. This often requires surgery (which you can do at home if you feel like you'd be able to). There are a few threads on exactly how to perform this surgery. If you don't want to do it yourself, you could pay a vet who knows how to do it but I think that's what you're trying to avoid. But before you go cut open the ducks foot, please make sure that it is in fact bumblefoot as it could lead to infection. Good Luck.

I've had staph infections before (on me, and my ducks) and tea tree oil is great for killing it. It was the only medicine that worked for me. It doesn't hurt to try. But you still should drain the foot of course.

Thank you for the responses. I will try these things and hopefully it will work! I cut the scab off and tried to squeeze and nothing came out. I can not get vetericyn near me, i would have to order it online. I will try the iodine first to see if that helps.

The pus in bumblefoot in ducks most often is like cottage cheese - it won't squeeze out. Epsom salt and clear iodine- clear, not brown.
