I have a Pekin (Jemima) and 2 Rouens. I was told that the chances of me having a male Rouen was slim to none...maybe 1 in every 200 that the feed store sold would be a drake...well, I should have bought a lottery ticket that day because both of my Rouens are drakes (Duke and Drake). I bought them all at the beginning of April (I think the 4th) and they were hatched around March 28th. I keep them penned from 8:30 p.m.-noon and then they wander the back yard from noon until 8:30 (I work until noon and we live in the country where there are stray dogs, so free range isn't really an option for us).

I've noticed the last couple of days that the drakes (especially Duke, the more aggresive one) has been head bobbing with Jemima and getting on top of Jemima in the swimming pool. This morning when I went out to feed them in their pen and I noticed that Jemima had a dark spot on her underside and that she was staying near the duck house or a nest she's set up in the middle of the pen. I didn't have time this morning to go in and check on her like I normally would because of a family emergency so this has been on my mind all morning at work. I'm thinking maybe, possibly, she's trying to lay an egg or something. I'll have to check on her when I get home in about an hour. Has this happened to anyone before? I know there's not been any predators get in their pen because our dogs would have alerted us (Emma, my cocker spaniel, seems to think she's the mom to these ducks and keeps a close eye on them and has alerted me when she's seen even lizards or bees near them).

Well, I got home and checked Jemima. I'm not real sure how to describe this, but it was her sex organ. After a few minutes it had made it's way back inside. What causes this?
