Pellets or crumbles?

It really kind of depends if the chicken is laying or if the chicken isn't laying yet if the chicken is laying I think you should feed it laying pellets or if the chicken isn't laying I suggest you should give it crumbles.

Actually, pellets crumbles and mash is a form of feed. There are no dietary differences unless.. it is labeled differently because it is composed of different constituents. E.g. Chick grower generally contains higher protein levels to support growth but there still remains less calcium. This is the exact opposite of layer feed. So really an egg producing hen can have any choice of feed form depending on what the owner wants to feed them. I just had to point out that small error for correction.:D

Layer food comes in both crumbles and pellets. Same with grower food. Pellet or crumbles are merely different shapes, not different food.

Which do you choose and why?
I only prefer pellets because there is less waste and the chickens consume them faster so there is no lack of hunger. Crumbles seem to be less sustainable than pellets just imho. I have also have experienced flies when using crumbles since they have a tendency to get stuck easily to the ground.

I ferment scratch grains and then after I drain them I mix in a scoop of flock raiser crumbles, a Tbs of oyster shell and a small palm full of black oil sunflower seeds.

I started doing that during a hard time to stretch my crumbles because scratch was a lot cheaper... I kept doing it because my flock really seems to thrive on it! They are not skinny, they are not too fat, they are super shiney and pretty with bright healthy combs, I'm still averaging 6 eggs a day from seven hens (my barred rock is molting).
