I have 5 hens of mixed breeds. One is caring for 3 new hatchlings, one is recovering from having been in solitary confinement for the crime of going broody, two are laying, but the Pendesenca is striking. She doesn't look like she's molting, she's not broody, and we're as close to the summer solstice as we can get.
Why would she strike?
We did have a mishap a few weeks ago when a sprinkler was not blocked and it soaked the bedding in the nestboxes - at a time when there was a broken egg in it and everything stunk bad. I believe that might be the cause of one of the hens to start laying elsewhere, but why would the Pendesenca strike at this time?
