I have a little banty rooster who is not so nice.....to us or the baby chick that we hatched out at the end of May. This little rooster has also made a bald spot on the back of one of the hens. Rather than putting a saddle on the hen, I have decided to pen the rooster up in a large dog cage for a couple weeks. First of all, to let the hen's back heal and secondly, hopefully the chick would be accepted more readily by the other females.

Is this a good idea to keep him separated for awhile or are the hens going to stress out too much?

Thanks!

My rooster is in his own pen and will be until he goes to the afterlife. He is mean and nasty and attacks my kids. My hens are just fine without physical contact with him. I'm trying to decide what to do with him. I have two young roos that I'd like to give a chance and he's just a waste of space.

So, I think your rooster and hens will be just fine separated for a while.

Thanks, lovinlife. He's been in this large dog cage all afternoon and right now when I look at him, he's beginning to get more and more frantic. The girls have been walking around the cage from time to time and one in particular seems concerned about her man, but I also notice that the young chick is not staying outside the fence as much and is around the other hens more. She ( or it, I'm not sure yet ) is small enough to go in and out through the fence and always stays away from the rest of the flock. He chases her away and I want her to be able to socialize with them more.

I feel for him but then again, I'm kind of past the point of caring whether he likes it or not!

Anyway, thanks again!
