I got 4 males and 4 females this springs as babes, how do I pen them so no one is hurt or killed? Can I pen a pair together and be fine? How long till their group of 8 stops being nice? Thanks for the help

What kind of birds (pheasants ?) are they. Ringneck, Golden or what ? How old are they and what type and size pen do you have them in ?

They are red goldens, sorry about that. I got them as babies in June of this year. The pen as block walls half way up with the top half being heavy plastic netting that I can't fit my thumb through and a soild roof on top. Don't know how big. Would have to ask DH, as he made it.

I have 30 red golden and 10 lady amherst about the same age as yours. A mixture of about equal males and females. Mine get along fine so far. My pen is 35' by 30' feet, so they have a lot of space to run around. I'm building additional pens like crazy now cause I know they won't get along this well once breeding season starts in the spring. I would reccomend either selling the extra 3 males or building a couple of more pens before March. The 4 males will fight to the death for the 4 ladies. Good Luck

I know a man that extended a a chainlink backyard (~40'x35') up 4' with 2"x4"ww and covered in with 1" topflight (he has a walk out basement into the backyard so includes a 4' wide walkway along the top story), it's also made to include a detached 1 car garage Now this is very bad juju and we all know it so I in now way recomend it. But he has had various ringneck mutants, ruffed, silver, reeves, peafowl, turkeys,and chickens

and he has had suprisingly low losses. The man loves to watch his birds, is an ex-cop, very stubborn, and about 30 years my senior... being why I havn't got up the nerve to tell him that what he is doing is very bad juju. I think I tryed to start with keeping the goldens and amherst togather and he didn't really want to hear it and used the excuse "they're just for my vueing pleasure".

Since this seems to be along the topic here, in the process of moving around some pens, I have a temporary situation. Would it be an issue to house a lone golden hen and a lone Lady Amherst hen together for a little while?

Come Jan you will have problems as this is when they start their courting for breeding season.You can keep all 4 hens with 1 male and have a bachelor pad for the other males,but they can not be near the pen with the hens in it.
All birds will get along until it comes breeding time then all bets are off.

Have to agree. They should be fine until late winter. This time of year I open the doors between all my breeding pens and let all my pheasants have free run of the entire area. About Feb. I have to separate again.
