Been busy daily finishing the coop. Its a small coop for only 3 chickens. Before we put the finishing board in place, I cannot find the perfect branch for a perch. I'm afraid an old branch will eventually crack and break, but I don't wanna cut a live tree branch for a perch. Please help quickly before I put final touch's on the coop? What do you use.

I am also about to finish my coop with the same final touches. I plan to try a couple of different roosts to see which they prefer. One idea I had was to use a wooden closet rod and the other was make one out of 2x4's. Use two 2x4's for the sides and put 3 2x4's inbetween them at each a differnt height.

I ended up opting for a 2 1/2 foot wide poop board under a 2 X 4 with the bird getting to perch on the 4" side. I think I may add a long branch for a "step-up" at a lower level because I have heavy Buff Orpingtons.

im also putting the final touches on my coop and was wandering what make the best home made perches please help

I just used 1 3/8" wooden dowels.. its thick enough to hold quite a few chickens and wide enough for them to get a good perch

My girls have an over 4ft flat board.. that way in the winter months they can huddle and keep their feet warm. I do have this nice random stick that i put on the ground in the coop too but they love their flat board perch, it's right into front of the window so they get to see out and the sun.
