Why is it if I get ringnecks from an farm that I have to fill out a permit. It is not like I can let them grow and release them they will not make it threw the winter months having to rely on humans to feed them?

I plan on eating mine. Not showing them unless the kids want to.

Is it illegal to keep them and just have babies so that you dont have to buy anymore?

i know that here in Indiana it is illegal to have them UNLESS you have the permit, but here it is only $15/year....i hope you find some better answers;)

in MO there are different rules, IE if you want to breed them and sell them it costs so much and if you just want to raise them it is a different price but I believe it is to deter the raising and "releasing" them into the wild, and have some control over that!

Hillbilly Rooster, you may not need a permit if you purchase your birds from someone there that already has a permit to just have them, you may just need there info to have as proof as to where you got them. If i understand the rules this applies to less then 12 pheasants..however pen size may still need to be followed

Enclosure size; pheasants, bobwhite quail, and Hungarian partridge.
Pheasants, bobwhite quail, or Hungarian partridge, when older than 14 weeks, shall be kept in an enclosure no smaller than 100 square feet, subject to the following conditions: spec or peepers are the things that block there vision to cut down on cannibalism
(a) Pheasants without specs(peepers) require a minimum of 25 square feet per bird.
(b) Pheasants with specs(peepers) require a minimum of 15 square feet per bird.

heres the link to the DNR rules look under exemptions

Each state has their own set of guidelines to raising gamebirds. You have to check with your state fish and game dept to see what applies to your state. Here in N.H you only need a permit for ringneck pheasants all the rest are not concidered native to the U.S.
In N.H.,Tony.
