Hello all! This is my first post here.

I have just recently started owning backyard chickens for the first time. My husband and I just recently moved to an older home that is sitting on about .65 of an acre, with most of that property being the back yard. The number of chickens I am allowed to own is 5 within city limits.

I was just thinking today that it would be nice to be allowed a few more chickens. My property is quite a bit larger than most of the other properties within city limits. I only share a fence with one neighbor, and the other neighbors are separated from me by a small creek.

Has anybody been able to get special permission from their city's zoning office to be able to own more chickens than what the current limits are? How would I go about doing something like that?

Thanks!

Probably if you went up to 8 or 9 nobody would notice. The rules are for practical reasons. Would you want your neighbors to have 50 chickens each,??? well maybe you would not mind, but many are even ticked off when there are 5. The problems start when neighbors complain to authorities. Some peep just don't like when neighbors have too many dogs or cats or cars or whatever. Keep a low profile and be happy. Stay away from roosters. They are the first troublemakers especially if you up your numbers unauthorized. Remember the term""" what mama don't know, don't hurt her. """ You apply this to getting a few extra and don't go telling anyone about it. Trying to let the authorities to allow you extra quantity, is like pulling teeth. It is much easier for them to just draw one line and say 5 is the number for ALL. ...
WISHING YOU BEST AND
