This is my first time incubating quail eggs and have a question about the lock down period. I put the eggs in the incubator August 7th. I know the average hatch time is 16 days my question is should start raising the humidity on day 13 or 14? I have researched and just wondering what works best for those who hatch quail. I am getting excited but nervous. Hoping for a great hatch. :)

I am on my 3rd quail hatch now. I just went into lockdown today which is day 14 for me. I put them in lock down 3 days prior to expected hatch and raise my humidity. Sometimes they do hatch a day early. Other than that I incubate and lock down exactly the same way as I do with chickens. I bump my humidity up to 75% during lock down. Good luck.

Thanks for the information. I think I am turning my dog into an addict also. When it's time to turn the eggs she sits beside me with her head in the incubator. LOL. I don't think my husband will be able to handle 2 of us. :D

My cat is the same way!!! I sit and watch every hatch, and he sits with me the entire time!

few tips on quail.

make sure the hatcher floor is not slippery (draw liner that looks like fine rubber mesh is the best thing to use)

All water dishs have to be either shallow or narrow so the quail will not drown (marbles in the water dish also works)

if they huddle together and make a lot of noise they are to cold

if they are spread out and panting they are to hot

if you are using a heating pad as a cave in the brooder add a light near the food or they will starve rather than come out of the dark cave.

teach at least one where the water and food is they are not the brightest birds

they will jump from your hand even when they carnt fly

If they are noisy there a problem

hope you have a great hatch
