Pheasant Come A-court in'

In the evenings when my chickens are finding their roosts but the guineas are still looking for bugs, we've had a wild pheasant male start to come up REAL close making his CHUCK-chuck call. She I be concerned? Do you think he may try and mate with them? Surely the guinea Roos will keep him at bay?

Generally male Guineas are protective by nature of their Hens, but the Pheasant may still try to breed the Guinea Hens anyway. If the Hens don't solicit the breeding they will most likely squawk and scream if he grabs them or tries to mount them, and if so I'd have to say the male Guineas would most likely come running and at least chase him off the Hen. I can't say if they'd attack him and run him off tho since I have never had wild Pheasants on my property and I have no first hand experience on how they would interact. You may end up with some hybrids in your hatches tho, lol.

Do you have chicken roosters that try to mount your Guinea Hens? If so what kind of reaction from the male Guineas do you see out of that?

Yes we do. Our two lesser male roosters will try to mount guineas (since the chicken hens won't let them) and the guinea's mate will go crazy. One rooster has no tale feathers left from getting roughed up by guineas. It's like they hold a grudge too. They are nice to roosters that mind their own buiness, but you mess with their lady and they will rub you OUT!

LOL, exactly... that's why I call my full-time free range flock my "Guinea Gangstas".

I do have a flock of 11 Guineas that have gotten along perfectly fine with my flock of chickens (mostly Roos) tho... if you consider Silkies as chickens, lol. But the Silkie Roos never try to mount the Guinea Hens, so far.

i wouldn't worry,i have recently got some guineas and they are well able to look after themselves.I don't see a pheasant besting a guinea unless he is unusually timid
