I need to build a coop and fly pen for 50 pheasants by the end of June. I looked at the quil and chicken coop designs, but I didn't see a thread for Pheasant coops. Please add pics for ideas. This is a great site.

I guess I was spelling "pheasant" wrong last night. I searched today and found lots of threads.

Unlike most domestic birds, pheasants are pretty hardy. You really wouldn't need a coup just a large pen, for 50 birds, and a little cover or shelter. If you have Ringnecks, they probably would't appreciate a coupe anyway. For my birds I only use a sheet of plywood placed over some cinder blocks and a lot of vegitation (corn, milo, weeds) in the pen for cover.

Thanks for the suggestion. I saw some of the large pens in some of the "pheasant" threads. I think a pen will be easier to build anyway. As they get older how many roosters can I keep in a mixed sex pen? Should I plan on being able to divide the pen up as they get older to be able to separate the roos with a few hens?

Can I mix the exotic pheasants with ringnecks in the same pen?

How old are your birds ? If they are not breeding age this spring you should be able to keep them all together until next spring with no problem. I have about 80 ringneck breeders and keep them seperated in pens of 1 cock and 5 or 6 hens. I get excellent hatching results with that ratio. If you have full grown birds you will probably soon be having problems if you have more than one cock together. Once they start breeding the fighting starts, which in Kentucky should be between the middle of March up into early June. Ringnecks are very aggresive compared to most ornamental birds. I would not keep any of your male birds that are fully grown together.

Glad to hear that I can keep them all together for about a year before I will need to segregate. This will give me time to build some breeding pens.

Be sure you understand that they can not be of breeding age this spring. Breeding age males can not be housed together. You didn't say how old they were.
