It's been three days since I was given a wild pheasant and TWRA has been called. I though the bird was in shock, nearly hit with a tractor would freak it out of course, and would walk in circles before falling over. Yesterday it was eating and I could tell it was getting stronger by how hard it could pull it's wings while I held him. Today I found him opening and closing his mouth and I'm not sure what to do please help

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So sorry about this bird. I would guess he boinked his head on something. I have seen this in quail when they flush up and hit their heads on the ceiling...they lose their ability to stand or walk. What happens is, they either develop brain swelling or damage their spinal cord in the neck. I suggest you keep the bird under a heat lamp for a few days. Injured birds go into shock. Shock can kill them long before the injury...shock makes them very cold. If he is tame enough, you will need to dip his beak in the water every hour or so, so he can drink and you will need to hand feed him. Many times they do recover if kept warm and given time for the swelling to go down. Usually takes 3 or 4 days. If by 5 days the bird is still unable to stand, I suggest you put him down.

Thank you for theadvice :) I've brought him inside and started watering him through a dropper.
