I have a chick that hatched 3/10 with curled toes and splayed legs. I managed to correct it with tape and hobbles, and she seemed to be doing really well for a while. A couple nights ago I noticed she seemed a bit wobbly again and was using the sides of the brooder for support. Last night she seemed better but I’m still concerned about her feet and legs. Is there anything I can do to strengthen them so she will be able to live a normalish chicken life in the future?

She is eating chick starter and drinking water. I’m estimating she’s about 4 days behind in development because she didn’t eat when first hatched. Was on paper towel for the first few days and then pine shavings since.

I am overall inexperienced when it comes to curled toes and making braces, but am wondering if another round of braces would help maintain the proper toe shape? I also wanted to throw it out there that when I was raising my chicks one of them got curled toes and was struggling to walk. After being given some advice, I gave her Save-A-Chick electrolytes (with riboflavin) and the curled toes straightened out after only a day or two more. Apparently it had to do with a nutritional deficiency, but was thankfully resolved pretty quickly. Good luck!

I think I’m going to end up culling. I probably should have done it sooner but I didn’t want to leave my other chick alone, now I think I’ve found some replacements.
