so our duck child Ferdinand is about 8 months old, and he has been an 'indoor' diaper duck since he was ity bity. he doesn't seem to remember any different. he almost doesn't know what to do with himself when it's not on! he does the opposite of what animals usually do when they are forced to wear something so unnatural, and he will freeZe and just stand there not knowing what he should be doing. it's pretty hilarious.
I digress.
so not so little Ferdie bird is the absolute pickiest eating duck I have EVER seen! when he was a bebé he would eat like the trash geese we have in the parks, just inhaling everything he got ahold of. now, he seriously will snub his nose up at his pellets if there is anything else like veggies or fruit etc etc. and he doesn't like to eat out of our hands anymore either. he used to LOVE peas, now he won't even look at them! I'll make a bomb salad for the little butthead and he will just shred stuff and fling it all over. we have tried everything. sticking to what he's used to, switching things up, and even letting him poke his head in the fridge to pick something out! all he wants are his floaty pellets.
there hasn't been any pattern to it, and haven't noticed any milestones that might have anything to do with it? I do know that he has become very sassy the last 2 or so weeks. like he's finally starting to hunt down something/someone to mate with (like my arm. ouch!) I thought it might be because of him being hormonal (in winter?) or because he's molting (for the 100th time!!) but he's been picky like this since he is was about 3 MAYBE 4 months old. any ideas on what it could be? tips on how to get your children to eat their veggies?! he doesn't seem sick at all, and he is definitely not malnourished (fatty), so it seriously could be just me overreacting or thinking too hard about it enough to freak myself out haha! I just don't want to wake up to a dead duck one day knowing it could have been avoided!
help!

Yep. . hormonal teenage duck. If it were me I wouldn't give him a choice. . I'd give him a dish of all flock and cut out all the rest until he learns to eat. You can add back in some treats on occasion for gaining his trust and getting him to eat from your hand again. I would worry since he's a house duck and not out foraging that he might not be getting enough nutrition/protein from just fruits and veggies and being so picky.
If he gets hungry enough he will eat what's in front of him.

I seriously don't think he's gona croak ok? You've obviously spoiled him tremendously which is fine. Maybe saute him up some portobello mushrooms with a bit of arugula and white wine and he'll forgive you. I wish I was your duck!
haha I know he's not going to croak, and I'm not super concerned about him starving or anything because he's a tubby little dude. as long as the food I'm feeding him has a good balance of nutrients and protein I'm sure he'll be fine. its more of MY problem with it haha it is like being a mom of toddlers all over again! such a thankless job haha
i seriously tried to give him some of our roasted veggies the other night (and also tried them raw) and he literally went to the other room and turned his back to me! he's lucky he's cute, the ungrateful little turd! :)

he gets a dish of his pellets and will eat that just fine, and will usually not waste a single piece. even if I put a couple grapes in his water, or on a separate plate (HIS plate!) he will just let it sit there. used to love kale, bok choy etc etc. it's just gone to zero fresh foods.

What are "floaty pellets?"
