picking out a chick

I used the search tool but didnt find anything and on google im finding weird things . . . .
so what do i look for in a healthy chick ? This has probably been asked a million times but im learning LOL so lets go back to the basics

healthy looking, lively, eating and drinking.....that's a start. If I'm at the feed store, I always check for pasty butts too....Good luck.
 
I got mine from my pet chicken. I got some from a swap meet but you have to really look at them. No Pasty butt. Sometimes it is hard to observe them or if it is hot or cold. I think Healthy chicks are busy chicks always scratching for food.

I am a chick noob, got my first chicks this week. What I did was - watched and watched.
I looked for the ones that were eating, drinking, running around a lot.
The guy told me to just close my eyes, reach in and grab 6.

Then when they were in the box, I tried to watch to see if any one was a bully. I put back a few and picked different.
