I have three month old Peachicks, had them when they turned two months.
I am trying to raise them to be friendly and want to know the best way to pick them up. When I wrap my hands around them they fuss, I know I’m not hurting them but it seems to stress them considerably. I want to teach them to come to me on their own but what is the best way to pick them up now?

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad to have you with us in this poultry loving community. I've never had peachicks before but if they are like other poultry you may need to gain their confidence without picking them up first. What ever the best way we have some peachick folks on board here that can give you a much better answer hopefully.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC. :frow

I have never had peachicks but my farmer neighbor 1/2 mile away has two that free range. They are like pets to their two teenage daughters so I imagine they held them a lot as chicks.

When their daughters graduate in two years, they've asked if we want them. 😳

I have to pick Peachicks up out of coop n bring inside to be with me, and return them to the coop after a few hours. I have yet to find a favorite food they like to get them to eat out my hand to work with them to perch on my arm. The thing they do not like is to be picked up from hand on top of back n holding wings down but if u do not hold wings they flop around, n want to fly from my hands.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Most birds of any species don't like their feet leaving the ground. Handling them a lot over their lives will make them more tolerant of being held, but they will probably never enjoy it. This said, it's to their benefit to help them to be as tame as possible should they need medical care, the more tame the bird, the less stress it will have being handled.

Welcome to our community!
