How can I tell if they are male of female? they are 17 weeks old. They love the rooster lol. They are never very far away from him.

Females will make a 2 syllable call that sound like "buck wheat" or "come back" and males will make a one syllable call. Also the thing on top of their heads ( sorry i don't know what they are called) the males will be red on top and their wattles will also be alot bigger. Not always accurate but i would be mainly be listening to their call for that is most accurate. Hope it helps!

Take you Guineas into a pen and sit with them.

When you her the female call, hone in on her, catch her and band her.

I do this for all my Guineas. They do go broody and you need to watch for them. Some will pick up a mate and you can watch the pair come back to roost.

Otherwise you need to count your females from time to time and make sure they are not nesting outside the coop or barn.

This is very dangerous for the hen and her eggs/babies.

I have a special place for the Guinea hens in the barn, removed from the chickens.

You will get to know your Guineas and loss is an inevitabel process for this guys.

I keep at least 16 Guineas and I have had to replace about 6 so far in the last few years.

Guineas HATE being alone and they will pair up with a roo that is gentle.

Alsmorninggloryhatchery said the thing on top of their heads ( sorry i don't know what they are called)
