Pics. of my new chickens from Yogiman!!! NEW PICS. HEAVY

I think McMurray might have gotten the breeds mixed up. I see SOME white rocks in there, but most look like White Orpingtons?

obsessed - You know where I am at, come on over.

mikarod - I was wondering if McMurray may have made a mistake also. I have looked at them, several times, and they all look the same to me. They all have the whitish/grey legs. The only thing is that they are not as big as my Orps. They are large birds, but just not like the Orps.

I like them not matter what their breed. It also helps that they are the only ones that have started laying for me.....lol

Well, I "thought" I saw a bird, the left bird that seems to be walking away from the camera..I think it's her left leg that seemed a bit yellow.

Depending on the age, the females could have the paler legs because of the pigment being transferred to the yolks. If it was only the females, that would be one thing, but with it being both males and females, seems like it'd be a separate breed.

Where did you get your Orps from? Different hatcheries have different sized birds. Heck...I got a Light Brahma from Ideal 11 years ago, and a bird on here named Thor doesn't look a THING like the conformation that my bird has.

I got my Orps. for Yogiman and to my knowledge, he got all of his Orps. from fellow BYC members, none from hatcheries. He went a little overboard and had something like 13 dz. eggs that he bought from fellow members, when he got his new incubator...lol

I hope nobody considers this as "bashing" but, is it possible that those people that he bought them from bred purebred birds together to make more of those purebred birds? Rather than attempting to go by the standard?

That could explain the body type differences and the lack of variation between breeds. Unless one of the breeders was breeding their birds for a specific purpose (more feathering, looser feathering, yellow legs, white legs, etc.) they would just be reproducing more of the stock they received from the hatchery.

Again, not meant to bash. We ALL have to start somewhere.

I would not think so, but am not sure. I know some of the names that he gave me and they seem to be out to improve the breed.

The only ones that I know for sure that he got from a hatchery is the White Rocks or whatever they are supposed to be...lol
