I bought 2 lights for the quail, one arrived today and it’s a little solar work light/ usb charger. The other is a little rechargeable bug zapper. The bug zapper doesn’t zap many bugs, but it is easy to turn off and on, and does zap a few, but it’s very weak. I’ve had the zapper out next to their cage every night for a few nights, I turn it in at like 6 or so when it starts getting darker, and I turn it off when I put the tarp on for the night and get the last eggs. I hate bringing it in to charge because it’s gross, and has dead bugs stuck to it that I can’t shake out. So I got the solar light / usb charger to power it haha.
anyway, the quail quickly realized the lights attract bugs, and they wait at the light stalking them.
I forgot to charge the zapper today so I just turned the work light on the usb charger on:
Here’s a pic of the zapper and their new solar
Xmas lights:
I was getting only 6-7 eggs a day from my 9 hens for about 2 weeks or so, I set up the lights on maybe Thursday, and yesterday I got 10 eggs! Every other day I’ve been back at 9. I guess the constant rain and lessening daylight was affecting them.
