Got hooked on Seramas this year, so we started our Serama coop this past week. These little birds don't do too well with cold weather, so we wanted an insulated coop that would give them space, since I probably won't let them go outside on days below 40 degrees (which is most of our winter...lol). We didn't want to fool with permits (required for 120 sq. ft. and up), so we planned an odd size of 12 x 9.5ft. It'll have 5 nicely sized double-paned windows (thank you CL!) to take advantage of winter sun. We also get the wonderful Ohio River Valley heat/humidity, so the windows will allow for a LOT of summer ventilation too.
Last week's start:
4x4 treated posts sunk (these were scrap-but the concrete was bought)
2x6 Band boards on
Floor joists in - serama inspectors on site
Sub floor going on - gotta' love a Paslode
Lazy, chunky dog testing the weight limit of our floor
This weekend's progress:
Walls framed - was nice to have the floor to work on....
Walls going up...two windows will go here.
One big window in this opposite wall...
All four walls up!
Upcoming week/weekend will be spent framing the roof - will update as we go...
